| 11-23-11 Ouachita knocks off St. Michael, 41-38 The Ouachita Lady Lions used tough defense and balanced scoring to defeat Class 4A perennial power St. Michael 41-38 Wednesday in the 2011 Ouachita Lady Lions Hoopfest. Ouachita (3-1) limited St. Michael to four points in the first quarter, and the Lady Lions led 26-20 at halftime. St. Michael battled back to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but Ouachita made several key defensive stops and forced turnovers in the final minutes to earn the win. Shan Anderson and LaShonte Jones scored nine points each to pace Ouachita. Charity Robinson and Kevione Moten chipped in eight points each. Taylor Morrison led St. Michael with nine points. Ouachita 55, Oak Grove 16: Ouachita held Oak Grove to just two points in both the second and third quarters, and the Lady Lions substituted freely throughout the win. Ouachita (4-1) led 13-6 at the end of one quarter, but the Lady Lions outscored Oak Grove 11-2 in the second quarter and 15-2 in the third to take total control. Jaleah Turned led the Lady Lions balanced scoring with nine points. Kaliyah Sherrod added seven points, and Kevione Moten, Tyler Thompson, and T'Erika Bell chipped in six each. West Monroe 46, Wossman 44: West Monroe converted a three-point play with five seconds to play to reject a Wossman comeback attempt. Wossman had made a four-point play with 13 seconds to play to take a 44-43 lead. West Monroe outscored Wossman 13-7 in the third period to take a 35-26 lead before the Lady Wildcats battled back. Richwood 66, Red River 35: Richwood overpowered Red River, jumping out to a 31-14 halftime lead and cruising to an easy win. Victoria Davis led Richwood with 19 points and Veanca Hall added 14. West Monroe 39, University 32: West Monroe was held scoreless in the second period and trailed 19-6 at the half, but the Lady Rebels outscored University 21-7 in the third period to take the lead on the way to victory. Donlicia James scored 21 for the Lady Rebels, and Chelzee Mathews added 11. Briana Oglesby scored 13 and Di'mond Jackson 12 for University. Rayville 64, Warren Easton 61 (OT): Rayville took a one-point lead into the final quarter, but Warren Easton fought back to force overtime. Rayville outscored Warren Easton 8-5 in the extra period for its second OT win of the shootout. Andreanna Jackson scored 19 points to lead five Rayville players in double figures. Thomasina MNinor added 13 points, and Dameisha Daniels, Victoria Wilson, and LaDencia Johnson 10 each. Neville 64, Red River 32: Neville outscored Red River 19-2 in the first quarter and was never threatened. The Lady Tigers led 37-15 at the half. Radjehah Turpin scored 14 points for Neville, and Deianna Hall added 11. Amber Jones scored 16 for Red River. Southwood 64, Rayville 28: Southwood limited Rayville to two first-quarter points and cruised to a 37-13 halftime lead. Southwood held Rayville to single-digit scoring in all perios except the second. Jessica Ellis had 16 points and Keona Favis 14 for Southwood. Victoria Wilson, Andreanna Jackson, and LaDencia Johnson scored eight points each for Rayville. Pineville 32, Oak Grove 28: Oak Grove rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring Pineville 9-4, but coult quite catch up to Pineville. Ariele Davis led Pineville with nine points. Shewayna Craft scored 14 for Oak Grove. Albany 60, Ruston 50: Ruston stayed with Albany for three quarters, but Albany pulled away late for the win. Shadarria Crawford of Ruston led all scorers with 27 points. Pineville 39, Wossman 31: Pineville led just 19-18 at the half, but the Lady Rebels pulled away with a 9-4 edge in the fourth quarter. Haley Deshautelle scored nine points to lead Pineville. Lakenya Casson led Wossman with 17. Albany 74, Richwood 53: Albany jumped out to a 10-point lead after one quarter and cruised to the 21-point victory. Albany led 40-24 at the half. St. Michael 61, Neville 23: St. Michael used a 15-2 advantage in the second quarter to take control against Neville with a 35-13 halftime lead. Taylor Morrison scored 18 points, and Gabby Jones and Journee Beard added 10 each for St. Michael. Chelsi Watson led Neville with 11 points. University 55, Ruston 37: University led Ruston by just four points after one quarter but steadily pulled away for the easy win. Briana Oglesby scored 16 points to lead four University players in double figures. Alaine Fisher added 13 points, Di'mond Jackson 11, and Terriel Ross 10. Southwood: 60, Warren Easton 29: Southwood jumped out to a 23-6 lead and never allowed Southwood to score in double digits in any quarter en route to a big victory. Keona Favis scored 17 points and Chelsea Tieuel 10 to lead Southwood. Ouachita turns back Neville, 50-42 Ouachita withstood a fourth-quarter Neville charge to defeat the Lady Tigers 50-42 on the first day of play in the 2011 Lady Lions Hoopfest at The Madhouse. Ouachita led 39-29 going into the fourth period, but Neville went on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 41-41. The Lady Lions, who improved to 2-0, regained the upper hand and outscored Neville 9-1 the rest of the way. Charity Robinson and Kaliyah Sherrod scored 10 points each to pace Ouachita. Shan Anderson and Nakaila Woods added six each. Chelsi Watson led Neville with 12 points. |
