Kyle Morace (1-0) picked up the victory. Adam Coco, Matt Debolt, Caleb Kennedy, and Kyle Tolson each had doubles for Ouachita. Bourgeois (24-11) scored the final 10 points of the game, including a Khiry Williams 3-pointer with 5.7 seconds to play to win the see-saw game. Ouachita (23-14) led 20-9 after the first quarter, but Bourgeois rallied to tie the game at 30-30 at halftime. Bourgeois took a 43-42 lead into the fourth quarter, but Ouachita surged ahead before the Braves staged the wild late rally. Sophomore Antonio Landers led Ouachita with 18 points and 14 rebounds, his fourth consecutive double-double. Nick Haywood added 12 points, and Jeremie Mitchell had 11. Tramel White scored 30 points to pace Bourgeois, which advances to the Top 28 next week. No. 12 seed Ouachita (23-13) erased a 47-38 halftime deficit and a double-digit deficit in the third quarter by outscoring the No. 5 Tigers 22-10 in the third quarter. Anotnio Landers had seven of his game-high 17 points in the period, and Jeremie Mitchell had six points on two three-pointers. Ouachita gradually built a lead in the fourth quarter, and then the Lions used a slow-down offense to keep Westgate (27-9) at bay. Landers finished the game with his third consecutive double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Nick Haywood added 14 points and Mitchell 13. The victory advances No. 12 seed Ouachita to the 5A quarterfinals. Ouachita will play host to No. 13 seed H.L. Brown, a 5-11 sophomore, averaged 15 points and eight rebounds per game for the Lady Lions, who finished 33-9 and advanced the the Class 5A regionals. Ouachita seniors Quinishia McDowell and Miesha Williams are on the third team. Ouachita outlasted Vidalia in a slugfest, 14-10. Ouachita trailed 4-1 after two innings, but the Lions posted seven runs in the third to surge ahead. Ryan Gebhardt hit a home run for Ouachita. Justin Guy picked up the victory on the mound. 2-18-08 (Girls basketball) Lady Lions fall in 5A regionals Ouachita rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit, but the No. 6 seeded Lady Lions came up short in a 36-33 loss to No. 11 Chapelle in a Class 5A regional playoff game Monday night at Ouachita. Ouachita trailed 34-33 and had three shots at the basket with less than 10 seconds to play, but the shots would not fall. Chapelle's Olivia Grayson sank two free throws with 0.7 seconds left to close out the scoring. Ouachita (33-9 jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Chapelle Chipmunks (21-8) closed out the first quarter with a 19-5 run to take a 20-11 halftime lead. Ouachita used pressure defense to claw its way back into the game, tying it up in the third quarter and trailing just 28-27 after three periods. The teams played a close game the rest of the way. Kristen Cromwell and Miesha Williams scored eight points apiece to lead Ouachita. Leading scorers Quinishia McDowell and Maria Brown were held to three and six points, respectively. Grayson scored 13 points to pace Chapelle. 2-15-08 (Boys basketball) Lions take first place The Ouachita Lions boys basketball team earned the right to hang another championship banner inside The Mad House with a thrilling 64-62 win over the West Monroe Rebels on Friday night. Ouachita's win at home gave the Lions a 5-1 record in District 2-5A, tied for first with Ruston. Mike Shaw scored the winning points on a tip-in as time expired. Nick Haywood scored 32 points to lead Ouachita (21-13) to a victory at The Mad House. Antonio Landers had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Lions have to wait until Wednesday's playoff seeding meeting to find out their first-round playoff opponent. 2-15-08 (Girls basketball) Lady Lions advance to regionals The Ouachita Lady Lions held off South Lafourche 60-54 Thursday night to pick up a first-round victory in the girls Class 5A basketball playoffs. Maria Brown scored a career-high 30 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead Ouachita (33-8). Quinishia McDowell added 18 points. The win at home earned Ouachita a regional playoff game at home Monday against the Chapelle Chipmunks (27-8). Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door. 2-15-08 (Softball) Lady Lions roll past Caldwell The Ouachita softball team picked up a big win Thursday against the Caldwell Lady Spartans. Ouachita won 12-3 to improve to 2-0 on the season. 2-13-08 (Girls basketball) McDowell commits to North Texas Ouachita Lady Lions' senior guard Qunishia McDowell gave a verbal commitment to play basketball at the University of North Texas. McDowell chose North Texas from among several scholarship offers, including Arkansas State and Missouri-Kansas City. McDowell averages 15.1 points per game to lead Ouachita in scoring. McDowell also leads the team in steals (3.4) and assists (3.2), and she is second in rebounds (5.8). Despite tearing an ACL and missing three games, McDowell has returned to the lineup to help the Lady Lions on their march into the playoffs. 2-6-08 (Football) Tight end Edwards signs with LSU Ouachita senior tight end Tyler Edwards (6-4, 227) signed a national letter-of-intent to play football at LSU. Edwards signed at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6 - national signing day. Edwards had already verbally committed to play at LSU. The signing ceremony left little doubt that Edwards would make good on his commitment. Edwards had an LSU helmet on the table in front of him and a large purple and gold LSU banner draped behind him before he signed. Edwards finished his senior season with 19 catches for 213 yards and two touchdowns in Ouachita's run-oriented offense. He also scored a rushing touchdown and helped pave the way for 1,000-yard rusher Montrell Conner. |
