Lions, Rebels tangle in scrimmage
The Ouachita varsity football team scored three touchdowns
Thursday in game situations in a spring scrimmage at West Monroe.
Ouachita moved the ball effectively on offense through the air
and on the ground while the OPHS defense held the Rebels in
check, forcing several turnovers.
"I thought defensively we ran to the ball well and tackled a lot
better,'' Coach John Carr said. Offensively, we had some guys
make some plays.''
Ouachita scored the first two touchdowns of the scrimmage.
Montrell Conner broke free for a long touchdown run for the first
score. The Lions added another touchdown when quarterback
Corey Treadway threw a scoring pass to Brandon Williams, who
made a nice grab.
After West Monroe scored on a touchdown run, the Lions
tacked on another score when quarterback B.J. Phillips connected
with sophomore receiver Stephan Neemar.
"Neemar made a great catch and a nice play,'' Carr said.
Both teams scored twice in the goal-line situation part of the
scrimmage. Ouachita's scores came on a Treadway scramble and
a pass from Treadway to Williams.
Carr said that he liked what he saw in the scrimmage,
especially from the defense.
"I'm most pleased with us running to the football and playing
hard,'' he said.
In the junior varsity portion of the scrimmage, West Monroe
scored two touchdowns while Ouachita did not score.

Lions exit with tough loss
Ouachita came close to pulling off an upset on the road, but a
late Jesuit run Thursday sent the Lions home from the Class 5A
baseball playoffs.
Ouachita, seeded No. 23 in the playoffs, jumped out to a 3-0
lead on No. 10 Jesuit with a run in the first inning and two more in
the second.
Jesuit chipped away with single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth
innings to tie the score at 3-3. The Blue Jays (23-10) scored the
winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an error with two outs.
Ouachita, which finished second in District 2-5A, ends the
season with an 18-16 record.
